How long does it take to get top rankings on Google?

By: Axandra

Many people who start a website think that it is possible to get high rankings on Google within a few days. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Competition on the Internet is fierce and there are several factors that influence how long it takes until Google lists your website.

1. How old is your website? If you have a brand new website then you have to wait. You can submit your website to Google but Google will only index your website if other websites get high rankings on Google link to your site.   In addition, you have to prove that your website is not spammy. Google has several filters for new websites and you have to earn Google’s trust before your website can get lasting high rankings. A new website can get good rankings for less competitive keywords but it usually takes about 6 months to gain the minimum level of trust that is necessary to get high rankings.

2. How optimized was your website before? If you have an old and established website that was blocking search engine robots due to a broken robots.txt file or a bad website navigation then it can be relatively easy to show up in search engines.    If you remove the factors that keep search engine robots from your web pages then search engines will list your website relatively quickly. Of course, this doesn’t work if you have a new site.

3. How many inbound links does your website have? If you have an old website that has very few links then it will take longer to get high rankings on Google. If your website has many inbound links, then Google will pick up the optimized pages on your website much quicker. The more quality links your website has, the quicker your optimized web pages will show up in Google’s results.

4. Which keywords do you target? This is a very important factor! The more competitive your keyword is, the longer you will have to wait to get high rankings and the more links and optimized pages you need. Start with multiple word keywords that are related to your business and then proceed to the more competitive keywords when your website has good content and inbound links.

5. Who are your competitors? If the website that are ranked in the top 10 results for your keyword all have thousands of inbound links and more than thousand pages then it’s not likely that your website will be able to get in the top 10 results if it has 10 inbound links and 20 pages. You can either wait for along time until you get top 10 rankings for that keywords (i.e. when you have a similar amount of pages and inbound links) or you can start with other keywords.

How many days, weeks or months does it take exactly?

Provided that your website has good inbound links and optimized web pages, you can get high rankings on Google within a few months if you have a brand new site and choose a very specific keyword that consists of several words. Old and established sites usually need some weeks for such a keyword.    If you target industry keywords, which usually consist of two or more words, brand new sites usually need six months to a year to get high rankings. An established site might get the same result within 3 months.

Highly competitive one word keywords usually require thousands of good inbound links. A brand new website can need several years to get high rankings for such a competitive keyword and even established sites can sometimes need more than a year.High rankings on Google take some time. You have to optimize your web pages and you have to get good inbound links. Without these two factors, it is not possible to get high rankings on Google.

The number of inbound links is a very important factor. If you have optimized web pages but no links, then you have to build these links and you have to wait longer. If your website has a lot of inbound links then you will get high rankings quickly if you optimize your pages.

If you don’t have the time to learn how to use SEO techniques to optimize your site, you can always hire an SEO professional.

If you use blogger, you can find your comments of authors link is “nofollow”.

What is “nofollow”?

I suggest you look at this first: About rel=”nofollow”.

Why change blogger from “nofollow” to “dofollow” ?

“Dofollow” can influence the link target ranking in the search engine index, so whenever someone input their URL address in comment URL form,  their site ranking will automatically increased, but only if the site they put that URL have high PageRank (PR). If the PR is 0 or less than their site, it still can be increased in the search engine index but only a little.

Chage this aslo have some disadvantage, for example like spammer, they can send spam comments, if you change, i suggest you make a setting of comments in your blogger.

Now you can change it like this:

change blogger from "nofollow" to "dofollow"

Login to your blogger dashboard and click on the Layout . Then, click on the Edit Html Sub-tab for Templates. Then tick on the Expand Widgets (As shown below)

Go for you templete and look for the rel=’nofollow’, and Delete it!

<a expr:href=’data:comment.authorUrl’ rel=’nofollow’><data:comment.author/></a>
<b:else/>
<data:comment.author/>

Then Save Your Template.

Now all is ok.

Top 12 SEO Tips for 2009 – garythescubaguy

Top 12 SEO Tips for 2009 – garythescubaguy

Your Website is looking good and has all the things you’ve been told it needed; great titles, H1-H3 tags, meta tags, good unique content and easy navigation.

So why aren’t you getting the traffic you deserve?

These tips are for beginner to advanced SEO’s. I have many other good tips in version 2007 and 2008 Top Tips, and I have struggled to come up with 12 more unique tips that are also worthy of being included in anything called “Top Tips”, but I think I have found them.

I’ve laid these tips out in a different way than in the past. Rather than spit out 12 random tips, I have arranged these tips into a step-by-step strategy that most anyone with a bit of knowledge can implement. The first part covers getting your website in shape, and the latter half will give you strategies to take advantage of the work you have done.

1. Make Sure Your Website Is Ready for SEO

    Most website owners have succumbed to the realisation that one way of another, they are going to have to start injecting content into their website to have any chance at a top 10 ranking. So many site owners set about creating or buying content to add to various sections of their website in an attempt to pacify the search engines. In most cases it lasted for a few weeks and was abandoned because it really takes a lot to create good content on a daily basis. Unfortunately the road to Google Hell (not ranking) is paved with good intentions. Unless you were smart and integrated WordPress, Joomla or some type of content generating application early on, you may have pages all over the place and this means you may also have internal navigation issues causing problems with the robots when they try to crawl your website. If the bots cannot find your pages or get stuck in a loop as a result of poor navigation then any work could potentially be a waste of your time and money.
    Run Xenu (a free tool) on your website to be sure this isn’t the case. This will give you a detailed overview of your websites navigation and if you have any problems with your internal linking structure. It will also notify you of any redirects or errors in linking, particularly any 302 redirects or 404 pages that are being returned throughout your entire website. You want to identify any adverse navigation problems that it finds. 302 redirects for instance are frowned upon by Google but are often left in place whilst working on a site. If you are getting 404’s you’ll be able to identify and fix these.
    Since we are getting our site healthy to maximise the effects of the other 11 steps, let’s go to Webmaster Tools and check out your overview. This also does what Xenu does but it shows you what Google in particular is seeing. The image below is an overview in Webmaster Central Tools from Google. The various errors are problems and need to be fixed.
