How to Choose a Right Notebook Computer
Notebook computers have incresed in popularity over the last few years. The market of notebook computers gives you more choice than ever before. But although, the wide range makes much more difficult to choose the right notebook computer without a little knowledge.
You can use some steps below as a method of choosing notebook computer:
1. First, think of What will I use my notebook computer for?. For example: if you like to make home videos, notebook must have a DVD-writer and a large hard drive. If you travel a lot WiFi is required. You like to chat on MSN and visit Orkut? Don’t read these tips, just buy the cheapest notebook available.
2. When playing games, a large screen size is vital. Things to consider are hard drive size and video card. Video card can cause notebook to overheat, to prevent it a good cooler is required. Also you need at least 2GB RAM, 256+ MB video card and 120GB of hard drive space in order to play well.
3. Computer capabilities are growing fast. Make sure your computer has ability to expand. If computer has below 2GB RAM, then make sure you can fit a lot more in it. Don’t buy too large of a hard drive to host all your files. Large hard drive makes your notebook heavy, cheaper and better solution is an external drive. They don’t cost much compared to notebook hard drive and lowers your burden.
4. Go to a shop (not e-shop) to touch and "feel" the notebook you have chosen. Imagine yourself working with it. Are all buttons on the keyboard placed correctly?
5. If you prefer a fast computer you should focus on cache memory(RAM). CPU speed isn’t the only thing that makes your notebook fast. Most of the time the processor(CPU) stands by and waits for RAM to respond so RAM speed is most important. RAM speed is determined by MHz not MB.
6. Next thing to look at is battery durability. Longer battery life means heavier notebook. Nine cell battery lasts long(3-5 hours). Dual duo Core(or more cores) is fast and consumes less battery.
7. Essential extras include USB ports, wireless networking capabilities, network port and modem port. USB is the standard for peripherals that connect to the notebook computer. Another one that is sometimes used for video and others is FireWire, it’s useful to have, but not essential. Wireless networking is becoming standard, but make sure. There should be a convenient way to turn off the wireless card as they suck a lot of battery power when in use and can be turned off when not in use. A network port is so standard that there must be one, modem ports are so common they should not be missing.
8. The mouse pad on the notebook should be easy to use and responsive. It should be out of the way enough not to interfere when typing. Keyboard layout needs to be good, even if it is smaller than standard.
Finally you might feel a little safer choosing a notebook computer from companies like Sony, Gateway, Dell, eMachines, Gateway, HP, Toshiba, Thinkpad, Acer or Fujitsu. They are all major notebook computer makers and will be able to back up their products with guarantees that they will deliver on.
Avoid disaster by making sure you read above steps before buying your Notebook computer.

Good article, especially the small details like USB ports are often overlooked. The best processor and display don’t help much if there are connectivity issues…I can tell from my own experience.
